COMPARISON OF MANUFACTURING SPECIFICATION

TAMICO MPL VERTICAL LIFT VS. ANSI / SIA A92.3 - 1990

ANSI / SIA A92.3-1990 IS PUBLISHED BY AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD INSTITUTE (ANSI) AND SCAFFOLD INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION, INC. (SIA) FOR MANUALLY PROPELLED ELEVATING AERIAL PLATFORMS.  THE SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF SUBJECTED STANDARD COVERED THE SAFETY REQUIREMENT THAT APPLIES TO MANUFACTURER, DISTRIBUTORS AND USER OF MANUALLY PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORM.  THE TABLE ATTACHED BELOW IS MADE BY TAMICO FOR COMPARISON OF MPL SERIES VERTICAL LIFT WITH ANSI / SIA REQUIREMENT TO MANUFACTURER.

4.2.3

WHERE THE PLATFORM IS SUPPORTING ITS RATED WORK LOAD BY A SYSTEM OF WIRE ROPES OR CHAINS, OR BOTH, THE SAFETY FACTOR OF THE WIRE ROPE OR CHAIN SYSTEM SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN 8 TO 1 BASED ON ULTIMATE STRENGTH.

USING TWIN CHAINS SYSTEM IN SUPPORTING THE PLATFORM.  SAFETY FACTOR OF TWIN CHAINS SYSTEM IS 10 TO THE RATED WORK LOAD.

ABOVE STANDARD

4.3

ALL CRITICAL COMPONENTS AND HOSES OF HYDRAULIC AND PNEUMATIC SYSTEMS SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM BURSTING STRENGTH OF 4 TIMES THE OPERATION PRESSURE FOR WHICH THE SYSTEMS IS DESIGNED. NON-CRITICAL COMPONENTS SHALL HAVE A MIN.  BURSTING STRENGTH OF 2 TIMES THE OPERATING PRESSURE FOR WHICH THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED. 

ALL CRITICAL COMPONENTS AND HOSES OF HYDRAULIC AND PNEUMATIC SYSTEMS SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM BURSTING STRENGTH OF 8 TIMES THE OPERATION PRESSURE FOR WHICH THE SYSTEMS IS DESIGNED. NON-CRITICAL COMPONENTS SHALL HAVE A MIN.  BURSTING STRENGTH OF 4 TIMES THE OPERATING PRESSURE FOR WHICH THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED. 

ABOVE STANDARD

4.6

THE RATED WORK LOAD OF AN AERIAL PLATFORM SHALL BE NOT LESS THAN 250 POUNDS OR EQUIVALENT TO 114 KG APPROXIMATELY.

THE RATED WORK LOAD OF ALL MPL AERIAL LIFTS ARE GREATER THAN 286 POUNDS OR 130 KG.

ABOVE STANDARD

4.7.1

THE AERIAL PLATFORM ON A LEVEL SURFACE SHALL BE CAPABLE OF SUSTAINING, WITHOUT REACHING INSTABILITY, A MINIMUM HORIZONTAL TEST FORCE OF 50 POUNDS PER RATED NUMBER OF OCCUPANTS OR 150% OF RATED WORK LOAD, WHICH IS GREATER, APPLIED TO ANY POINT ON THE PERIMETER OF THE PLATFORM FLOORING WHILE THE PLATFORM IS CARRYING THE RATED WORK LOAD.    

MPL VERTICAL LIFTS WERE TESTED BY THE METAL INDUSTRIES RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER WITH REPORT TO CERTIFY THE COMPLIANCE OF THIS HORIZONTAL LOAD TEST REQUIREMENT.

MEET STANDARD

4.7.2

THE AERIAL PLATFORM SHALL SUSTAIN, ON A LEVEL SURFACE, A STATIC TEST LOAD EQUAL TO 150% OF ITS RATED WORK LOAD.  THE TEST LOAD SHALL BE PLACED WITH ITS CENTER OF GRAVITY 12" INBOARD FROM THE GUARDRAIL WHILE THE UNIT IS IN THE LEAST STABLE POSITION.  THE AERIAL PLATFORM SHALL REMAIN STABLE DURING THIS TEST. 

MPL VERTICAL LIFTS WERE TESTED BY THE METAL INDUSTRIES RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER WITH REPORT TO CERTIFY THE COMPLIANCE OF THIS VERTICAL LOAD TEST REQUIREMENT.

4.7.3

UNLESS DESIGNED FOR SUCH USE BY THE MANUFACTURER, NO AERIAL PLATFORM SHALL BE USED ON A SLOPE. EVEN SO, DESIGN OF USING ON A SLOPE SHALL PASS THE STABILITY TESTS AFOREMENTIONED.¡@

TYPICAL MPL VERTICAL LIFTS ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR USE ON A SLOPE.  CUSTOMER'S REQUIREMENT FOR USING ON A SLOPE IS ACCEPTABLE AND SHALL COMPLY THE STABILITY TESTS REQUIREMENT.

UPPER CONTROLS SHALL BE CLEARLY MARKED AS TO DIRECTION AND FUNCTION AND BE OF THE TYPE THAT AUTOMATICALLY RETURNS TO THE OFF OR NEUTRAL POSITION WHEN RELEASED.

ANY AERIAL PLATFORM EQUIPPED WITH A POWERED ELEVATING ASSEMBLY SHALL HAVE A CLEARLY MARKETED EMERGENCY LOWERING MEANS READILY ACCESSIBLE FORM GROUND LEVEL.

4.8.2.3

THE AERIAL PLATFORM SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH A READILY IDENTIFIABLE EMERGENCY STOP DEVISE LOCATED AT THE UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL STATIONS THAT WILL DEACTIVATE ALL POWERED FUNCTIONS THAT AFFECT THE MOVEMENT OF THE PLATFORM.

ALL MPL VERTICAL LIFTS EQUIPPED WITH A READILY IDENTIFIABLE EMERGENCY STOP SWITCH LOCATED AT THE UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL STATIONS.

THE CONTROL SYSTEM SHALL BE DESIGNED SO THAT A SINGLE MALFUNCTION IN THE CONTROL SYSTEM WILL NOT RESULT IN UNINTENDED MOVEMENT OF THE PLATFORM..

SEPARATED POWER CABLE AND KEY LOCK PROTECT AGAINST UNAUTHORIZED USE OF MPL VERTICAL LIFT.

ABOVE STANDARD

4.9.1

PLATFORM WIDTH AND LENGTH SHALL BE AT LEAST 18".  THE PLATFORM FLOOR SHALL HAVE A SLIP RESISTANT SURFACE.

PLATFORM WIDTH AND LENGTH OF MPL VERTICAL LIFTS ARE GREATER THAN 600mm OR 23".  THE PLATFORM FLOOR HAVE A SLIP RESISTANT SURFACE.

THE PLATFORM SHALL INCLUDE A GUARDRAIL SYSTEM.

ALL MPL VERTICAL LIFTS ARE INCLUDING A GUARDRAIL SYSTEM.

4.9.2.1

FLEXIBLE MATERIALS SUCH AS CABLES, CHAINS, AND ROPES SHALL NOT BE USED IN THE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM.

NO FLEXIBLE MATERIALS ARE USED IN THE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM.

MEET STANDARD

4.9.2.2

THE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM SHALL INCLUDE A TOP RAIL AROUND ITS UPPER PERIPHERY. THE HEIGHT OF THE TOP RAIL ABOVE THE PLATFORM SHALL BE 42 +/- 3 INCHES.

THE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM INCLUDE A TOP RAIL AT THE HEIGHT OF 1000 mm OR 39-3/8 INCHES

4.9.2.3

THE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM SHALL INCLUDE A MID-RAIL APPROXIMATELY MIDWAY BETWEEN THE TOP RAIL AND THE PLATFORM SURFACE.

ALL GUARDRAIL SYSTEM OF MPL VERTICAL LIFT INCLUDE A MID RAIL BETWEEN THE TOP RAIL AND THE PLATFORM SURFACE.

4.9.2.4

EACH TOP RAIL, MID-RAIL, OR EQUIVALENT VERTICAL BARRIER SHALL WITHSTAND A CONCENTRATED LOAD OF 300 POUNDS, APPLIED AT ANY POINT IN AN OUTWARD OR DOWNWARD DIRECTION WITHOUT REACHING ULTIMATE STRENGTH.

EACH TOP RAIL, MID-RAIL OF MPL VERTICAL LIFT CAN WITHSTAND A CONCENTRATED LOAD OF 300 POUNDS, APPLIED AT ANY POINT IN AN OUTWARD OR DOWNWARD DIRECTION WITHOUT REACHING ULTIMATE STRENGTH.

4.9.3

THE PLATFORM SHALL INCLUDE TOE-BOARD ON ALL SIDES.  THE MINIMUM TOE-BOARD HEIGHT SHALL BE 4".  TOE-BOARD MAY BE OMITTED AT THE ACCESS OPENING (S).

THE PLATFORM OF MPL VERTICAL LIFT INCLUDE TOE-BOARD ON ALL SIDES.  THE MINIMUM TOE-BOARD HEIGHT IS 120mm OR 4-3/4".

4.9.4

AERIAL PLATFORMS SHALL INCLUDE ACCESS FOR PERSONNEL TO USE IN REACHING THE PLATFORM WHEN IT IS IN THE LOWEST POSITION.  ACCESS STEP OR RUNGS SHALL HAVE A SLIP-RESISTANT SURFACE.

ALL MPL VERTICAL LIFT INCLUDE ACCESS FOR PERSONNEL TO USE IN REACHING THE PLATFORM WHEN IT IS IN THE LOWEST POSITION.  NO STEP OR RUNGS REQUIRED TO ACCESS.

MEET STANDARD

4.9.5

AERIAL PLATFORMS DESIGNED TO ALLOW US WITH THE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM OR SECTIONS OF THE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM REMOVED SHALL HAVE ATTACHMENT POINT (S) FOR A FALL PROTECTION DEVICE.

THE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM OF MPL VERTICAL LIFT ARE NOT REMOVABLE DUE TO SAFETY CONSIDERATION.  CUSTOMERS' REQUIREMENT FOR REMOVABLE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM WITH ATTACHMENT POINT (S) ARE ACCEPTABLE

4.10

AERIAL PLATFORMS SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH A MEANS OF PREVENTING UNINTENDED LATERAL MOTION WHILE IN USE, SUCH AS LOCKING SCREWS, FLOOR LOCKS, WHEEL LOCKING MECHANISMS, AND THE LIKE.

ALL MPL VERTICAL LIFT EQUIPPED WITH A PARKING STAND TO ENSURE THE UNIT WILL NOT MOVE UNINTENDEDLY.
